The 40 series was produced from 1958 to 1983. This is known as the "classic" Land Cruiser. It is a two door with removable hard-top / soft-top. Early models had a 3-speed transmission that was replaced in 1974 with a 4-speed. It was produced with several engine types. FJ40's with the 3.8 liter 6-cylinder F engine came to North America around 1963. FJ40's with the 4.2 liter 2F engine started in 1974. Disk brakes started in late 1975. Factory power steering and A/C were optional on 1979 and newer.

View a series of photographs of the restoration of a 1976 FJ40 from beginning to end. We start with the exterior as it arrived at our shop and end with the finished product. If you have high speed access, or are extremely patient, follow this link to bigger pictures, otherwise follow the previous one. The photos are set up to change every 9 seconds for the small pix and every 15 for the large ones. Sit back and enjoy the show.
